Alexa, why is your name not popular with new parents?

-

♦ New parents are rejecting the name Alexa because of the rise of Amazon’s digital assistant, according to new research. Two thirds of mums and dads surveyed by parenting site Channelmum.com said they wouldn’t choose the girl’s name because of its association with the device.

Overall, 55 per cent of the 1,434 parents polled said they would be very worried if their child had a name linked to a hashtag, meme or other internet trend.

However, the most common reason cited for rejecting a name was more traditional. 83 per cent said that they didn’t use a name because it “reminds me of someone I don’t like” and seven in ten struck out a name choice after realising it would mean their child’s initials spelt something rude or silly.
