Inheritance sought
SIR – Dominic Cavendish (Arts, March 30) considers The Inheritance the most important American play of the century. Outside London no one is in a position to agree or disagree.
My local cinema in Hexham does a top-rate job in screening productions from the Royal Opera House, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre and many more.
With its arts funding and modern technology, can’t the Young Vic show a play of such magnitude to a wider audience? The division of the play into two, running over six hours, is no argument, as Covent Garden has previously shown Wagner to a sell-out Northumberland audience.
This looks like an opportunity missed – in my case an Inheritance lost. David Shiel
