DR MAHTO’S ANTIAGEING ROUTINE
AM
Cleanse If you have dry skin, try a cleansing milk; for oily skin, a cleansing toner or foaming cleanser. Avène Extremely Gentle Cleanser (£7.87, boots. com) is good for dry or sensitive skin.
Moisturise
Apply an antioxidant serum; look for ingredients such as vitamin C, ferulic acid and resveratrol. I like Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% by the Ordinary (£4.90, the ordinary.com).
Apply sunscreen
These often come in a moisturising base; those with oily skin may want to skip the moisturising step. For acneprone skin, my favourites are Heliocare 360 Gel Oil-free SPF 50 (£28, dermacare direct.co.uk) and Avène Cleanance Solaire SPF 30 (£16, boots. com).
PM
Cleanse At night, those with acne can benefit from double cleansing (perhaps with a foaming cleanser then a micellar water) to remove all make-up, pollution and products.
Apply a retinoid
This will improve fine lines and reduce pore blockage, to help prevent blackheads. I like Medik8 Retinol 10 TR Serum (£44, dermacare direct.co.uk). Adapalene, sold over the counter under names such as Differin, is a retinoid that also acts on acne. If the skin feels dry, you can apply a moisturiser 15 minutes after the retinoid goes on, but only if you feel you need it.
