Four Britons killed in road crash after trip to space centre
FOUR members of a British family on a holiday in Florida have been killed in a car crash following a trip to the Kennedy Space Centre.
Adam Stephenson, 30, from Bristol, was driving a rented Mitsubishi saloon car on Monday evening at 6pm when he turned left into the path of a pickup truck, reportedly after following satnav instructions to perform a U-turn.
Mr Stephenson was killed with his wife Maryanne, 29, and his parents Bryan, 59, and Sheralyn, 56. All were pronounced dead at the scene, Titusville police said. Mr Stephenson’s brother did not make the trip and called law enforcement when his family failed to return from their outing.
Todd Hutchinson, of Titusville police, said: “He called local law enforcement but they were already on their way to notify him. He lost his brother, sister-in-law, his mum and his dad.”
The family is thought to have been staying 70 miles away, in Davenport, south of Orlando, and to have visited the centre to witness the launch of Elon Musk’s Spacex rocket, the Falcon 9.
The driver of the pickup, James Walsh, 28, was treated in hospital for minor injuries, police said.
