Lasers keep seagulls off Pope’s Easter daffodils

-

The Pope’s flower arrangers used hi-tech lasers to protect their Easter display from seagulls.

After the daffodils in Rome’s St Peter’s Square came under attack from hungry birds last year, Paul Deckers, the chief floral arranger, sent out a call for solutions. “We got more than 400 responses,” he told Dutch television.

Charles Lansdorp, a spokesman for the Easter flowers organisation in St Peter’s, told Catholic newspaper The Tablet: “[The lasers] don’t shoot at the birds but send a green light across the flowers, which the seagulls don’t like.”
