Corbyn’s insult to Jews
SIR – Jews celebrate their release from slavery in Egypt at the Passover Seder, when they became a free people. This is a religious occasion accompanied by a meal full of symbolic significance. Then, among other customs, we invite “all who are hungry to come and eat”.
For over 2,000 years the seder has been the target of wicked slander, largely because it is absolutely central to Judaism. Its beautiful and harmless rituals are many, and to prepare our young children who learn its Hebrew significance, we often hold a “mock” seder beforehand. This week, Jeremy Corbyn partook of a new kind of mock seder (“Corbyn meets with radical Jewish group”, report, April 3).
After all his “apologies”, this is a humiliating insult to virtually the entire Jewish community. Lord Winston (Lab)
