Severn bridge to be renamed in tribute to Prince of Wales
♦ The River Severn bridge is to be renamed after the Prince of Wales to mark his 70th birthday and 60 years since his investiture, the Welsh Secretary will announce today.
The bridge linking England and Wales will be renamed the Prince of Wales Bridge at a ceremony later this year. Alun Cairns said: “I’m delighted to announce that – with the agreement of the Prime Minister and Her Majesty The Queen – the Second Severn Crossing will be renamed the Prince of Wales Bridge. The announcement is a fitting tribute to His Royal Highness in a year that sees him mark 60 years as the Prince of Wales and decades of continued, dedicated service to our nation.”
The bridge was inaugurated by the Prince in 1996 and he is due to attend the renaming ceremony, 22 years on.
