Pippa Middleton’s father-in-law ‘facing another allegation of rape from second woman’

-

A SECOND woman has made an allegation of rape against Pippa Middleton’s father-in-law, it has been reported.

The allegation against David Matthews was made in Yorkshire and relates to an incident that happened during the Eighties, according to The Sun. South Yorkshire Police declined to comment on the report, saying: “We neither confirm nor deny the arrest or investigation of an individual unless charged.”

Representatives for Mr Matthews, 74, the father of James Matthews who married the Duchess of Cambridge’s sister last summer, also declined to comment on the allegations.

Mr Matthews was questioned by French police last week over an alleged rape of a minor and placed under formal investigation by a magistrate.

He was accused of two offences against the woman, who is now in her 30s, between 1998 and 1999.

One of the offences is said to have taken place on the Caribbean island of St Barts, where the millionaire former racing driver owns the Eden Rock hotel. The second attack allegedly took place in Paris. Mr Matthews has strenuously denied the “untrue and scandalous accusation”.

A Paris judicial official told The Daily Telegraph: “I confirm that David M was placed in police custody on 27 March at the Brigade for the Protection of Minors.

“Following his arrest, the Paris public prosecutor’s office opened a judicial investigation, overlooked by an examining magistrate. He was placed under judicial supervision by the investigating judge,” the official added

“The investigation alleges that the crimes were committed in 1998 and 1999. The investigations will now continue as a judicial investigation and will be led by an investigating judge.” Mr Matthews was released on bail and was allowed to leave France, although he is expected to return to Paris as the investigation continues.

A spokesman for Mr Matthews said of the French allegation: “David Matthews categorically denies the allegation and unequivocally contests the untrue and scandalous accusation.”
