Remembering the fate of Russia’s royal family
SIR – July 17 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the murder of Tsar Nicholas II and his family at Ipatiev House in Yekaterinburg, Russia. The residence was demolished in 1977 to make way for the Russian Orthodox Church of All Saints. A memorial service is to be held there on the day.
It would be interesting to know if President Putin plans to attend as he has shown sympathy to the Tsarist regime. Earlier this year he unveiled a statue of Nicholas II’S father, Alexander III, in Crimea.
His attendance would be modest atonement for what Boris Yeltsin, the former president, described as the Soviets’ “monstrous crime”. Jonathan Morris
