Beast clean-up halted as walkers ignore warnings

-

A “Beast from the East” storm clear-up is being hampered by cyclists and walkers ignoring warning signs to stay away from the Lake District site.

Thirlmere reservoir was hit by storms earlier this year, resulting in hundreds of trees being blown down.

But workers have been unable to carry out repairs after up to 20 people a day ignored closure signs. The clear-up was halted due to the risk of debris falling on to passers-by.

United Utilities said a person with a pushchair and a group of young people on a Duke of Edinburgh course ended up in the middle of the works.
