Woman stabbed outside church in critical condition

-

A WOMAN is fighting for her life after she was stabbed in the stomach outside a church in Coventry in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Police were alerted to the attack by the ambulance service after the woman, thought to be in her 30s, was found outside St Margaret’s Church.

She was taken to hospital with serious injuries and remains in a critical condition following the attack, at around 3.15am.

Part of the church is now closed as forensic officers investigate.

Local reports say officers focused on one particular area outside the front of the church and took several bags of evidence away.

One resident, who did not want to be named, told the Coventry Telegraph: “The doors behind [the church] had people going in at about midnight.

“I’ve never seen that and wondered what was so special to go to church at that time.

“I then got woken up about 3am by the sirens and saw the lights of about six police cars.”

Another local resident said his father told him there was about 20 police officers at the scene. No arrests have so far been made.
