Ingenious plastic

SIR – It has been disappointing to see plastic demonised in recent months. Plastics are one of the major scientific innovations of the last century.

Instead, we should be denouncing littering and the failure of successive governments to create the necessary legislation for energy-efficient and safe incineration of waste plastics. Patrick Fossett
