Rudd calls on music industry to review songs

-

The music industry and social media companies must accept they have been responsible for glorifying gang violence, the Home Secretary said yesterday.

Amber Rudd called on platforms like Youtube and Snapchat to review their terms and conditions to ban videos which promote gang violence and drug culture.

But she unexpectedly went one step further, backing calls for the music industry to review the songs it produces amid concerns many degrade women and give “mixed messages” to young people.

There are increasing fears that so-called drill music helps portray gang membership and carrying out knife attacks as an attractive way of life.

Ms Rudd said it was a “very good suggestion” for the music industry to play a part in tackling gang culture.
