Russian TV buys ‘unfair’ BBC thriller Mcmafia

-

THE BBC has sold Mcmafia to the Russians even after its embassy said it was unfair on Moscow.

The series, about corrupt oligarchs around the world and their links to state security, was initially criticised by Russia’s UK embassy.

But now it has been bought up by Friday!, a Russian company, and will air on the country’s free-tv channel.

The eight-part series starring James Norton depicted Russians at the heart of a global drugs and murder cartel. He played a hedge fund boss being sucked into funding international drug dealing and conspiracy.

He is seen to be helped by the Russian embassy and the Russian secret service is portrayed working with a rival gangster.

When it was released, the Russian embassy mocked the show in a tweet and ran a poll on how many Russians were in jail in the UK.
