Brexiteers to build Museum of Sovereignty
A GROUP of Eurosceptics intend to record the tale of Brexit for posterity via a Museum of Sovereignty likely to be built in the nation’s “Leave capital”.
The blueprints are being drawn up by a cross-party group of campaigners, who hope the museum will serve as an educational centre for future generations and a key resource for academics.
Lincoln, which, along with neighbouring constituencies, recorded one of the highest Leave votes in Britain, has been selected as the most suitable location for the museum.
Unveiling the plans yesterday, Gawain Towler, a former Ukip spokesman who is heading the project, said the museum would exhibit a series of historical artefacts ranging from political memorabilia to texts of speeches and European treaties.
Mr Towler, who has joined forces with Lee Rotherham, a Leave campaigner, and Alex Deane, of Grassroots Out, added that the group intends to chart Britain’s membership of the European Union from entry in 1973 to exit day on March 29 2019.
The Daily Telegraph understands that Nigel Farage has privately backed the proposals, as have a number of Tory MPS belonging to the pro-brexit European Research Group.
