Ten years on, police face charges over man’s death

Five police officers will face gross misconduct charges over the death in custody of a musician 10 years ago.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct said the allegations relate to the officers’ actions on the day that Sean Rigg, 40, was arrested and detained at Brixton police station.

Marcia Rigg-samuel, his sister, said: “As we approach 10 years since my brother died following unnecessary and unsuitable restraint, we hope that the hearings will… provide some much-needed accountability.”
