Brexit ‘helps pupils get first choice school’

-

♦ More children are now getting their first choice of primary school because of Brexit, London councils have said.

Yesterday, more than half a million families in England were told which school their child will attend this autumn, on what is known as “national offer day”.

There were signs that, in many areas of the country, a higher proportion of children gained places at their first choice of school compared with last year.

A spokesman for the Pan London Admissions Board, said: “We believe that high property prices in some areas and the initial effects of the EU referendum have contributed to this easing of pressure at primary level.”

Since the Brexit vote, European families have been leaving the capital, which has eased the pressure on schools, the spokesman said.
