sir – Following adverse comments in the wake of last year’s war re-enactment event at Levisham in North Yorkshire, this year’s event has been cancelled.

It is a shame that a few negative remarks can have this result. It has taken 25 years for someone finally to take offence at this atmospheri­c annual re-enactment.

The large numbers who attend are most certainly offended at its cancellati­on. However, their views and feelings appear not to matter.
