For over 30 years the BBC’S consumer affairs programme has fought the side of the public, ensuring that we know all we need to about everything from faulty electrics to dodgy egg sandwiches. In addition, it’s roped in everyone from Kaiser Chief ’s singer Ricky Wilson to Brian Blessed to report on subjects as varied as the ways in which ticketing websites rip you off and whether our household appliances make too much noise.

Tonight sees the start of the 39th series and the now established live format shows little signs of flagging as presenters Matt Allwright, Nikki Fox and Steph Mcgovern report from Salford. So what can we expect? The nature of the programme means we don’t know exactly which consumer crimes will feature although the focus continues to be on greater public involvement with viewers encouraged to contact the team with stories they feel should be covered. The popular Rogue Trader segment will also return with hints of “shocking behaviour at one of Britain’s bestknown establishments” and we’re promised an investigation into the nefarious methods used by parking companies to hit people with extra charges.
