Hiker’s ‘Good Samaritan’ stole phone

-

 A walker who fell and broke his ankle on a clifftop ramble had his mobile phone stolen by a “Good Samaritan” who promised to call for help.

Ralph Silverman, 61, fell while walking alone on a remote coastal path in Swanage, Dorset.

Owing to a lack of signal, he flagged down a fellow walker and asked him to get within range to make the call – only for the stranger to walk off with his phone.

The retired primary school head teacher had to wait another 30 minutes before another person came across him. Due to the isolated area, Mr Silverman had to wait another three hours before he was airlifted to hospital.

Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses who saw the thief in the area. He is described as being aged in late 20s, about 6ft and was carrying a backpack.
