Theatre under fire over ‘tasteless’ swastika offer

-

A playhouse in Germany has become embroiled in controversy after it offered free tickets to a drama based on the life of Hitler to anyone prepared to wear a swastika armband.

Those who paid for their ticket were offered the chance to wear a Star of David instead. The theatre, in the southern city of Konstanz, claimed its aim was to show how easily people could be corrupted. However, the offer was criticised by local politicians and Jewish groups as “tasteless”.

There was also anger over Theatre Konstanz’s decision to hold the opening on the anniversary of Hitler’s birthday.
