We should thank Jewish MPS, not abuse them
SIR – Having watched the televised Commons debate on anti-semitism this week, I was moved to tears to hear the accounts of the vile abuse received by Jewish MPS (report, April 19).
I am Jewish and proud to be so. I do not hide behind anonymity like the cowards who send vile hate messages via Twitter or other social media platforms.
A figure quoted in the debate was that the Jewish population of this country is 0.05 per cent. Their contribution far outweighs this tiny percentage.
We should thank Jewish MPS for their service to their constituencies and this country. Carole Landau

SIR – To express her disapproval of Britain’s targeted bombing of chemical plants in Syria, the shadow home secretary Diane Abbott chose to tweet a mocked-up photo of an Israeli fighter bombing civilians in Tehran (report, April 17).
The photo was created six years ago as a composite for the Aviationist blog. Ms Abbott decided that it was acceptable to use it for this completely unrelated situation, despite all the accounts of virulent, repeated anti-semitic and anti-israel attacks within the Labour Party. Furthermore, she went on to dismiss contemptuously as “pathetic” people’s criticism of her use of a fake photo.
Jeremy Corbyn has not mentioned her action, let alone rebuked her for it.
I am a British Jew whose family came here at the end of the 1890s. I have always felt safe and immensely grateful to be living in Britain.
The pathway Labour has taken during the past two years, however, has filled me with deep foreboding. Ruth Wildish
