We should be giving Millie a childhood, not a spot in the Time 100

Millie Bobby Brown, 14, is the youngest person on Time’s ‘most influential’ list

-

Millie Bobby Brown, the star of Netflix series Stranger Things, has become the youngest person ever to appear on Time magazine’s annual list of the most influential people on the planet. The actress, who is just 14, appears in the Time 100 alongside the likes of Meghan Markle, Oprah Winfrey and Donald Trump. Aaron Paul paid tribute to her in a gushing piece, saying that her “spirit and mind” were “timeless”.

I always feel a little disturbed when I see the teenager, and not just because she plays a character with telepathic powers. She is a child, and yet she gives off the vibes of a grown-up, as if she would rather discuss world politics. Has she always been this way, or has the pressure of the spotlight hardened her?

I hope that behind the Instagram veneer, Millie gets to have a childhood. Being on Time’s most influential list is all well and good, but where do you go from there? Not to the school prom, that’s for sure.
