Truss: Tories need a sense of humour
THE Tories need to rediscover their sense of humour if they want to beat Labour, a Cabinet minister says today.
Liz Truss, the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, told Chopper’s Brexit Podcast – available today on The Telegraph’s website and itunes – “One of the reasons why I joined the party is that it has got a sense of humour.
“Labour is po-faced, humourless, hat-wearing … there is something deeply negative when you look at the Labour benches and see their Eeyore faces – that everything is going to the dogs.
“We need to be the positive optimistic party that does have a sense of humour and can take the mick [out] of ourselves – because everybody else does.”
She said the party should “talk about money, success, aspiration, talk about how things in this country are getting better” to beat Labour.
She added: “We are seeing real wages rising this week, company investment going up. We need to get that message across.”
Also on the podcast, Chris Skidmore, the Tory vicechairman for policy, said the Tories had to “reset the button” after Brexit and “detoxify” the party’s policy on immigration.
