DVLA and data sales

-

SIR – Given current data protection regulation governing companies’ use of personal data, shouldn’t the DVLA have sought people’s permission before selling their details to private commercial organisations such as parking management businesses (report, April 28)?

I consider that information to be between me and the DVLA, and not for sale. David Statham

SIR – Last week I received a large envelope from the Charities Aid Foundation containing six pages of information about the new data protection rules affecting my account.

It asked me to fill in my name and address and state whether I wanted to continue using Gift Aid or make some different choice. The whole thing is a waste of time, paper and energy.

If any CAF employee reads this, please note that I shall either continue as before or, if data protection rules prevent that, simply stop using CAF for giving to charity. Either way, the envelope has been binned. JD Morgan
