SIR – Danny Mortimer, the chief executive of NHS Employers, may regret that 100 Indian doctors have been denied visas to enter Britain and practise here (report, April 28) – but what about India?

The cost of medical training is enormous, yet we have no scruples about poaching doctors and nurses from countries less able to afford such training. Indian patients must be rejoicing that their hospitals and clinics are not going to be deprived of the medical staff who are desperatel­y hard to come by in their own country. Dr Robert J Leeming
