Beach landing

A pilot made an emergency landing in a Thirties plane on a beach as his passenger waved to sunbathers to move out of the way. Zac Rockey, 47, and Trudi Spiller had to improvise when the engine cut out and they began to lose height as they flew over Sidmouth, Devon on Saturday afternoon. Ms Spiller urged people to vacate Jacob’s Ladder beach. No one was hurt in the incident and the plane was undamaged. Mr Rockey said: “I have had better runways. It was not ideal.” Ms Spiller praised the “hero” pilot.
