I’m not retiring any time soon, vows Lansbury, 92

-

DAME ANGELA LANSBURY has said she is not yet ready to retire from showbusiness at the age of 92, after being reinvigorated by working with the first female director of her career.

Dame Angela, who stars in Little Women, which is just about to premiere in America, dismissed the idea that the show would be her swansong, saying she had other work in the pipeline.

“I wouldn’t say it’s my swansong, she told People magazine. “It’s not the last thing I’ll do. I’m already doing other things but it’s been said this would be my swansong. But it isn’t.”

She added: “I know at 92, I should be thinking in terms of swanning out, but I don’t know, if you have the energy and the enthusiasm and the interest, I don’t think you ever really stop.”

Little Women, which sees her play the formidable Aunt March, was her first experience working with a female director, Vanessa Caswill, she said.

“That was an interesting experience for me, and a first, and I’m so glad,” she said. “It was a very intimate relationship with a director, which I had never really encountered before.”
