Race to free Polish miners after tunnel collapses
Rescue teams have confirmed the death of a second Polish coal miner and are searching for three more trapped more than half a mile underground after an earthquake, the mine’s chief executive said.
The quake hit the Borynia-zofiówkajastrzębie mine in southern Poland on Saturday morning, initially trapping seven miners at a depth of about 2,950ft. It was the mine’s strongest quake since 1989. Two miners were rescued on Saturday after part of the tunnel they worked in collapsed.
