Daily kindness

-

SIR – Despite our political problems and the Brexit argy-bargy, Britain remains a wonderful place to live.

Now in my mid-seventies, partially sighted and with a walking stick, I am increasingly discovering how kind people are. On a recent rail trip, I did not once have to haul my suitcase on or off a train, as willing hands reached out to help.

When I cannot see notices or labels on items in shops, people read them out for me, and heavy doors are held open. In my town, drivers often stop to allow me to cross the road safely, even when I am not at a formal crossing point.

It makes a real difference to my life every day. Carol Miller
