Brexit manifestos

-

SIR – The Foreign Secretary is quite right to challenge the absurdity of the proposed customs partnership deal with the European Union (“Boris challenges May to drop ‘crazy’ customs partnership”, report, May 8). It is unworkable.

It is pitiful to behold the contortions of arch-remainers, who are trying to block the democratic choice of nearly 80 per cent of voters, who supported the two major parties and their manifesto commitments at the last election to implement the EU referendum result.

SIR – Most of us who voted Leave in the EU referendum did so to regain control over our own nation.

Why, therefore, are we even in negotiation with an EU team whose remit is to penalise Britain and, in doing so, dissuade other members from leaving?

Can we not simply state our intended national course and make it the EU’S problem to respond?
