Not quite like a bank

-

SIR – According to Martin Kearsley, its Banking Services Director, “the Post Office is here to serve customers of all Britain’s high street banks” (Letters, May 7).

I am treasurer of a music and drama festival, and we bank with Barclays. For 16 years I have taken Friday’s cash receipts to the Post Office on Saturday morning. This year I was told: “We can’t take cash”. This left me in difficulties. We have no other way to collect money for tickets. We had two more days to run, and our insurance only covers £300 cash held overnight. Diana Awdry

SIR – Our village Post Office closed, and services were transferred to our newsagent. When we asked for a form to request that our mail be saved in our absence, we were told that no such forms were held (although the newsagent had requested them), and that I would have to go to Wigston or Market Harborough, eight or 10 miles away, to obtain the form.
