Grenfell fridge-freezer is safe, says Government

The fridge-freezer model that caused the Grenfell fire is safe and does not need to be recalled, the Government has said.

Consumers who own the model in question can carry on using it, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and Whirlpool, which makes the fridges, have said.

Following the blaze, which killed 71 people last year, Greg Clark, the Business Secretary, ordered an expert examination of the fridge-freezer after it was identified by the Metropolitan Police as being involved.

Last night consumer group Which? described UK safety standards as “inadequate”.
