75-year-old rescued from cliff fall after 8 hours

-

An elderly woman cried out for help for more than eight hours after she fell off a cliff at a Peak District beauty spot.

The 75-year-old had slipped and tumbled “a long way” down the cliff at Matlock Bath, Derbyshire, injuring both of her legs.

Derby Mountain Rescue Team saved the woman at 6.30pm on Monday – but later discovered, to their horror, that she had been stuck since 10am.

A spokesman for the rescue team said the police were the first to be called.

David O’sullivan, who was part of the team, said: “It was a very lucky escape for her … it definitely could have been a lot worse.”
