Rural banking

-

SIR – As someone who lives in New Zealand and has an ANZ bank account there, I am dumbfounded by the RBS bank closures (report, May 9).

Ross Mcewan, its CEO, is not only a New Zealander but also owns a farm there. He should be ashamed of his attitude to rural dwellers in Britain, while in his homeland ANZ keep rural banks open. When I asked an ANZ manager how they could afford to do so, he said they couldn’t afford not to. Gordon Rennie
