Spatter pattern

-

SIR – Returning from Brittany by road 10 days ago, we too noticed that our windscreen was spattered with dead insects (Letters, May 15).

I thought it must have been due to an EU ban on the use of neonicotinoid insecticides, and speculated about a revival in bird populations. However, upon my return home, Google informed me that no such ban has yet been enacted. I fear the apparent resurgence of insects was merely the result of a meteorological blip. Cllr Peter Flower

SIR – Earlier this month I drove 210 miles from Yorkshire to Essex. My windscreen and the front of the car were covered with dead insects, which had to removed as they were a hazard due to the low sun.

Curiously, when I travelled on to Germany, hardly a single insect was on the car. There’s no flies on the Germans. Rupert Wilson
