Royal bank worker wore ‘lewd hat’ on charity cricket tour
COUTTS launched a sexism investigation after an employee was photographed wearing a “lewd hat” on a charity cricket tour to Rwanda.
The bank, which is used by the Royal family, launched its investigation after a worker was pictured at a dinner table wearing a hat adorned with what appeared to be a novelty penis.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the incident took place during a charity cricket trip to Rwanda sponsored by the bank. The images were posted on Twitter in October 2017 by Jessica Mckinney, a physical therapist who was dining in the same restaurant.
It is thought that the trip was undertaken to celebrate the opening of a new national cricket stadium in Rwanda, which the bank had raised money for.
A Coutts spokesman said: “We are aware that a wholly inappropriate and insensitive item was worn by a member of staff on a recent charity visit. This poor judgment does not reflect the values of the bank and falls below the standards that we regard as acceptable behaviour.”
The Journal said two people had been issued with warnings as a result. This was not confirmed by Coutts.
