sir – Hilary Mcgrady, the new director general of the National Trust, plans to make the Trust more dog-friendly (Interview, May 18).

When will it become disabledfriendly? After being members for 50 years and stewards at Anglesey Abbey for 10 years, my late husband and I cancelled our membership when he was confined to a wheelchair as there is no disabled access to National Trust properties. Eileen Norton

sir – A good start to the National Trust’s “dog-friendly” policy could be to install bins for the disposal of dog mess at the Trust’s King Alfred’s Tower in Wiltshire.

We made a family visit to the tower along with our three spaniels. We picked up after our dogs and carried the bags with us during the visit, thinking there would be bins at the car park, but there were none. Our children would not have the bags inside the car, so we hooked them around the tow hitch and drove off.

When I contacted the National Trust, I was told that the bins were unsightly – though possibly not as unsightly as poo bags swinging from a tow hitch. Lisa Coward
