Short Cuts RADIO 4, 3.00PM

It’s the return of comedian Josie Long’s captivating chocolate-box-esque series of short documentaries and “radio adventures” focusing on stories on different themes. It’s always a pleasure to catch an instalment, and this series begins in style with a programme all about memory and words that last long after they were spoken. Cocooned in a dreamy, evocative soundworld, Long asks why we forget the details of treasured conversations with dead relatives, but can remember every word of advertising jingles from decades ago.

The City Remembers RADIO 5 LIVE, 7.30PM

It’s one year on from the Manchester Arena bombing and its affects are still being felt, but the story of the city’s rise from tragedy to strength and defiance has been extraordinary. Manchester Cathedral’s special service of commemoration is broadcast on 5 Live this afternoon from 2.00pm, and then this evening the special programme The City

Remembers brings together voices of people from all over the region sharing their reactions and responses, exploring how Manchester has changed and grown since that night.
