Fatal stabbing in rush-hour street

-

Police were looking for two murder suspects yesterday after a man in his 20s was stabbed to death in an affluent part of London during the evening rush hour.

The victim, known as “Cel”, was attacked in front of commuters in Upper Street, Islington, north London, at 6.30pm on Monday.

A witness who works near the scene said a police officer tried to resuscitate the man for up to 10 minutes. He said: “The officer was going to town, he was giving it all... all credit to him. Then the paramedic trauma team came and took over.”

Scotland Yard said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin had been informed but formal identification of the body had yet to take place.

The investigation was “in its very early stages” but police were working to trace “at least two male suspects believed to have been involved”.

Police cordoned off a large area and closed nearby roads.

At least 37 people have been fatally stabbed in the capital in 2018. At least 63 people have been violently killed in London since the start of the year.
