SIR – Were John Bercow, the Speaker, employed in any position other than his current one, the allegation­s made against him would at the very least have resulted in an immediate suspension from his duties pending a full investigat­ion (Letters, May 22).

That such an accusation against an MP appears to have been overlooked – for reasons, in this case, of political expediency – is totally unacceptab­le. CR Banks
