Labour opens women-only lists to males
♦ Labour is to allow people who identify as women on to all-women shortlists.
The National Executive Committee has decided to approve a statement which says that self-identifying transgender women are eligible in selections.
It confirms the roles are open to people who were born male and now consider themselves to be women. The statement says: “The Labour Party’s all-women shortlists are open to all women, including selfidentifying trans women.”
This comes after David Lewis was suspended for attempting to stand as a women’s officer in his local Labour party, claiming he “identifies as a woman on Wednesdays”.
