THERESA MAY, a lifelong cricket fan, has been admitted to the Marylebone Cricket Club, The Daily Telegraph can disclose.

Normally, members have to wait 26 years to join the world’s most famous cricket club, but the Prime Minister waited just a few months after the club fast-tracked her application.

Her nomination was signed by prime ministerial predecessors David Cameron and Sir John Major. A friend said: “She is very pleased with the news.”

Mrs May’s application was rushed through last week, as it once was for Sir John when he became a member.

The news emerged on the first day of the Test match between England and Pakistan at Lord’s.

Henry Blofeld, an MCC member for 60 years and former Test Match Special commentator, said: “Prime ministers really ought to be able to jump the queue. I think female membership is important to the MCC.”
