MP quits job to confront pro-remain ‘imbalance’
A Conservative MP has quit her government role to concentrate on fighting the pro-remain “imbalance” on a Commons committee.
Andrea Jenkyns, a member of the Exiting the European Union Committee, said that she had become “frustrated” at its attempts to “upset the democratic decision of the British people”.
Remainers outnumber Brexiteers on the committee by 14 to seven and Ms Jenkyns said reports “have been unbalanced in favour of us either remaining in the EU, the customs union or delaying our departure”.
She said she was giving up her unpaid role as a parliamentary private secretary to the ministry of housing, communities and local government on the day the committee, which scrutinises the Government’s work on Brexit, produced a report suggesting Britain would have to stay in the customs union.
