Scoring for the first third and fourth of the eight sessions of the 2018 Worldwide Bridge Contest (simultaneo­us pairs) is complete, writes Julian Pottage, Bridge Correspond­ent.

In the third session, two of the top 10 pairs are British:

5th Irene Sime and David Kaye (Carlton, Edinburgh), 69.13%; and 7th Wyn Williams and Edward Jones (Colwyn Bay, North Wales), 70.63%.

In the fourth session, five of the top 12 pairs were British, including the second placed pair, who automatica­lly qualify for the grand final in Shanghai or Sanya in October:

2nd Susan Nesbitt and Jenny Thompson (Stansfield, Suffolk), 72.16%; 3rd Pat Waters and Bernie Waters (Tunbridge Wells), 71.13%; 10th John Bloomfield and Celia Jeal (Stansfield. Suffolk), 65.77%; 11th David Arnold and Barry Moore (Broughton, Lancashire), 65.77%; and 12th Trevor Towers and David Birt (Cardiff), 65.64%.
