Pensioner, 95, arrested on suspicion of murder

- By Francesca Marshall

A 95-YEAR-OLD suspected dementia sufferer has been arrested on suspicion of his female carer’s murder who died of head injuries in north London, Scotland Yard said.

Police were called on Thursday morning to a hospital where the carer, 61, was being treated, but she died yesterday morning.

Neighbours said they heard screams from the property and described the man as “frail”.

It is thought the woman’s injuries were sustained at a home in Islington, where she was working as a carer. The 95-year-old was later taken to hospital as a precaution due to a pre-existing condition, police said.

The man has been bailed while enquiries continue. Officers said they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the death.

The pensioner is one of the oldest people in Britain arrested on suspicion of murder. Last year Jack Tindall, a 96-year-old Second World War veteran, strangled his wife, a dementia sufferer, with a dressing gown cord before confessing the killing to the police.
