Dentist pays for failing to spot decay
A dentist has been ordered to pay a five-figure settlement after failing to spot decay that led to a grandmother losing two teeth and suffering “endless pain”.
Penelope Christoforou, 61, was awarded £17,000 after suffering for years following botched treatment at the hands of Dr Antonis Petrou-amerikanos.
She received a filling, root canal and crown from Dr Petrou-amerikanos, a clinical director and cosmetic dentist at Agno Dental and Aesthetics in Rickmansworth, Herts, over a period of three years.
However, after suffering more pain, she looked for a second opinion, and later had two teeth extracted by another practice.
The Dental Law Partnership found decay was visible in X-rays taken as far back as 2011. They reached an out-of-court settlement of £17,000.
