Bankrupt set fire to his goods
A bankrupt man set fire a removals van containing his possessions in protest at his property being repossessed.
John Cartwright, 65, of St Dennis, Cornwall, said, “If I can’t have my stuff, then nobody can”, before setting fire to the vehicle, causing £35,000 worth of damage last February.
When police arrived, he was waiting outside drinking a cup of tea.
He was sentenced to nine months in jail, suspended for two years, and given a three-month curfew.
