Acid in ambulances to stop bleeding
Ambulances equipped with tranexamic acid, which helps blood clotting, can reduce the number of people dying from bleeding by up to 30per cent, research found. A study by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, funded by the National Institute for Health Research, showed that giving patients the acid could save 400 lives a year. Following a trial, it has now been taken up by all ambulance services in England.
