Genetic test to spot if babies need insulin
Around three per cent of young people with diabetes have a genetic form of the disease but not all need the same treatment. The University of Exeter and the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust test diabetic babies to identify their genetic strain and prevent them from getting the wrong medication. Around 1,500 British babies were tested last year and the lab also helped more than 2,000 families from 100 other countries.
